    What is lipoma?

    Lipomas are a soft lump growth made up of fat cells and are usually found just below the skin and anywhere in the body.

    Lipomas are found anywhere in the body most often on the trunk, neck, upper thighs, upper arms, breast.

    More than one lipomas may be present in the body.

    A lipoma is noncancerous soft tissue growth and usually movable.

    -Lipoma in the airways can cause respiratory distress.

    -Patients suffering from esophageal lipoma can present with obstruction, dysphagia, vomiting, and reflux.

    -Lipomas are palpable swelling.

    -Lipoma may also arise in the dural or medullary components of the spinal cord, thereby leading to cord compression

    -Lipomas occur frequently in the breast

    Age / sex of lipoma?

    Women have a greater tendency for lipoma. Childhood lipoma is mostly inherited and rare. A lipoma is commonly found in adults from 40 to 60 years of age. Lipomas can occur in any age but are more common in the third and fourth decades of life.
