Burning mouth syndrome is also termed as glossodynia, orodynia, oral dysaesthesia, glossopyrosis, stomatodynia. Burning tongue or sore mouth is a complaint of burning sensation in the mouth where no underlying dental or medical cause can be identified and no oral signs are found.

Burning mouth syndrome is a painful, frustrating condition often described as a scalding sensation in the tongue, lips, palate or throughout the mouth.

Age/Sex of Burning mouth syndrome

Women are 3-7 times more likely than men of a similar age to experience burning mouth syndrome.

It is very rare to found symptoms of burning mouth syndrome in patients of younger age that is younger than 30 years of age. Prevalence of burning mouth syndrome may increase from 3- 12 fold with increasing age.

No racial predilections are seen in cases of burning mouth syndrome.

Causes of Burning mouth syndrome

There are different factors leading to burning mouth syndrome:-
