Shoulder pain is an extremely common complaint, and there are many common causes of this problem. It is important to make an accurate diagnosis of the cause of your symptoms so that appropriate treatment can be directed at the cause.

If you have shoulder pain, some common causes include:Shoulder-Arm-Pain

    Bursitis:
Bursitis means there is inflammation of the bursa, the tissue-thin sacs of fluid that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles in a joint. Bursitis can cause a dull ache that worsens with movements of the arm upward or to the side away from the body.

    Rotator cuff damage:
The group of four muscles and tendons that connect the arm to the shoulder is called the rotator cuff. The tendons are susceptible to inflammation and bruising, leading to pain when performing overhead activities, sleeping on the affected side or reaching behind your back.

    Shoulder dislocation:
A dislocation is an injury that occurs when the top of the arm bone becomes disconnected from the scapula. The shoulder may show signs of swelling or bruising, or cause numbness.

    Osteoarthritis:
Osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition defined by the reduction of the amount of cartilage in a joint.Osteoarthritis symptoms include pain, stiffness and inflammation within the joint.

    Frozen shoulder:
This occurs when the muscles, tendons, and ligaments inside the shoulder become stiff, making movement difficult and painful.

    Bone spurs:
Bony spurs or extra bone may form around the joint. The ligaments and muscles around the joint become weaker and stiffer.

    Tendinitis:
Overuse or injury of nearby tendons, such as the bicep muscles of your arms, can cause pain in the shoulder. Tendinitis could also be an issue – it is the inflammation, irritation, and swelling of a tendon. Tendinitis can be the result of injury, overuse or aging.
